5 Questions to Ask When You Find Yourself Off Track

Guys I haven’t written in about a month – & I felt so bad! Things have been crazy for me these past few weeks in EVERY area of life – work, family, personally – but I’m finally starting to feel back on track. 😊

So, today that’s what I want to talk about. Getting back on track. We’re always told ‘just get back on track’ like it’s the easiest thing to do. But sometimes it’s just hard. & confusing. Like, where do you start?

giphy The easiest place to start is with self-reflection. I recently had to ask myself these questions, and more importantly I had to honestly answer them.

1. How did I get off track?

Well, first we should think about the reason we got off track – did we get distracted, lost, thought another route was better? This is the toughest part because you have to admit the part you played. When we’re distracted its so easy to wander off – what kind of things have your attention? What things pop into your head in your down time? Are they good for you and your overall vision? If not, they’re likely a distraction. Other times, we can simply get lost. Make sure you know your destination and aren’t just moving along a path just to be moving. If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there. & if you’re not content and always think the grass is greener somewhere else, your life will never be enough for you. It’s cliché, but the grass really is greener where you water it (not paint it).

2. Was that really MY track?

Before you start heading back to it, make sure the track you were following was actually yours to begin with. Sometimes we get caught up following people, or simply doing what they think we should do instead of what we know we should be doing. And what can be even worse, we follow ourselves instead of our destinies and what we’re actually called to do. Believe me, you’ll never have peace if you only follow your desires and not God’s plan.

3. Was I getting ahead of myself?

When we’re on the right track and we know it, we can get excited and ahead of ourselves. We knowww what amazing things are ahead and literally can’t wait to get there. So we start treating our path like a race instead of journey. In a race, your main focus is to get past the red tape as soon as possible – not worrying about anything else along the way or in your way. All you see is the finish line. But with a journey, which is how we should treat our path, its more so about learning as much as you can along the way. The destination isn’t the prize – all the people and experiences picked up along the way are. 😊

4. Am I too ‘used to’ my path?

I know I don’t have to tell anyone about getting too comfortable with where we are in life. Sometimes we get a small portion of a blessing and we’re okay with it. So we stop moving forward. We make the middle of the path ‘home’ so to speak. Although that may feel good for a while, we’ll eventually feel uncomfortable again because we’re too used to where we are. We get that way because we’re treating the pathway like a destination, when it isn’t that! The pathway has resources that are meant to keep you going, but when you run out you’ll feel like you’re in square one again OR that your destination wasn’t enough. It isn’t enough because it isn’t your destination. Keep moving sis!

5. Did I ignore any warning signs?

This is probably the most important question to ask yourself. Before we wander off track, there are always (bright, flashing) warning signs.

giphy (3)Since hindsight is indeed 20/20, what can you look back and see that you chose to ignore? Before I wandered off, I now see that I chose to ignore my feelings – anxiety, stress, worry. Your body has ways of showing you when you’re headed in the wrong direction. As women, we have to do better about listening to our bodies along with our intuition. They won’t steer your wrong!

So, after you ask yourself these questions, really think about the answers. Be real with yourself. Then pray. Then get back to moving on your path. We’re all heading back together. 😊
